Changing the Paradigm: The Transition from Uneconomic Growth to Sustainability

When: May 15th Third Thursday
6:30pm Refreshments
7:00pm Presentation

Who: Rob Dietz, Center for the Advancement of the Steady State Economy.

Where: Sierra Club Office, 2950 SE Stark St, Suite 110.

Economic growth was a blessing for much of U.S. history. Now it may cause more problems than it solves, yet economic growth remains the highest priority in the domestic policy arena. Our citizens are continually told that there is no limit to economic growth, in defiance of ecological principles and basic physics. Rob will present about the possibility of a sustainable economy that is balanced with nature. The presentation will end with time for a thought-provoking discussion.

Do you think that the Willamette River is protected?

In fact, The Willamette River and Portland Harbor suffer from years of pollution. Be sure to read our Portland Harbor Web Page to learn about the recent fish advisory from the Oregon Department of Human Services.

The Willamette River is still being polluted because of something called toxic mixing zones that let industries legally discharge toxic waste right into the Willamatte. For more information go to our water quality web page.
