WE NEED YOU! The Sierra Clubs true strength, and ongoing ability to protect the
natural heritage of current and future generations, exists with you, our
members. Without you as our eyes and ears, we are blind and deaf, and
consequently we become mute. No experience is
necessary, just an enthusiasm for wild nature, and an
inquisitive mind and spirit.
But, Volunteers with Special Skills Also Urgently Needed - The Juniper Group Federal Areas Issues page has a summary of the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management actions that impact the environment. Even more detail is provided in the many comments and appeals documents available on the Comments and Appeals page. If you want to do a field survey that may result in our filing comments and appeals, go to our Field Survey Guide page. Initiating a comment or appeal is only the first step, however. Follow-up to insure what is being done is what was agreed to is just as important, is time consuming, and requires considerable expertise in several professions. The Juniper Group and Oregon Chapter needs your help if you have skills in the following areas:
- Wildlife
- Aquatics
- Soils
- Restoration
- Renewable Energies
- Electrical Generation Systems
- Legal
We will pair people up with experienced people to develop your expertise.
To volunteer: Fill out the Volunteer Form to let us know your contact information and how you want to become involved. This form will be emailed to the Juniper Group Chair Gretchen Valido and the Oregon Chapter Eastern Forest Organizer Asante Riverwind. They will contact you to get you involved.
Friends of the Forest Groups - Sierra Club volunteers, staff, and regional allies have and continue to bring many conservation changes to the region's public lands projects, protecting forests, wildlife, and fish for generations to come. Please join in our member volunteer efforts in the forests of your region. By bringing Sierra Club members together into local volunteer "Friends of the Forest" groups, we can effectively assist conservation efforts, hiking and photo-surveying proposed projects and monitoring agency actions. Please check the list for projects on the Juniper Group Take Action page for issues in areas where you live, work, and play that are important to you!
Oregon Chapter and Juniper Group Resources - The Oregon Chapter Conifer and Wild Juniper Journal newspaper distribution has increased throughout Oregon's eastside, with venues (stores, cafes, offices, libraries, etc) in the following communities helping to distribute the paper: Bend, Sisters, Sunriver, Redmond, Madras, Prineville, Powell Butte, Mitchell, Spray, Dayville, John Day, Prairie City, Burns, and Pendleton. Regional and local volunteer help in distributing the Conifer and Wild Juniper Journal in areas near you (including needed local volunteers in many of the above and additional communities) can help increase community awareness and effective involvement in conservation issues. If you can help distribute papers in your area, please contact Asante Riverwind. The Juniper Group welcomes member articles and letters on subjects of ecological importance. Articles should be about 800 words maximum, letters between 300 to 500 words (shorter is ok), and are most useful if in electronic Word document format. Photos and/or art accompanying articles are appreciated.
National Sierra Club Resources - As Sierra Club members, we have access to resources and educational materials on important global, national, and regional issues. Books, publications, DVDs, informed speakers, and resources on topics from global climate change, energy, public lands, forests, fires, wildlife, waterways, population, OHVs, toxins, and proactive ecological solutions to the problems of today are available for use in your community, workplace, school, group, friends and family. Ongoing volunteer community outreach and educational presentations help increase conservation awareness, changing the world for the better, person by person. Sierra Club resources include DVD movies and CD power point presentations on important conservation issues from global to local, ready for public viewing.
